Bombay & Cedar is a monthly subscription and offers two different subscription options: Mini & Premium.
The Mini subscription includes 5-7 full and deluxe-sized products in every box and promises a retail value of over $60 in every box.
The Premium subscription includes 8-10 full and deluxe-sized products in every box and promises a retail value of over $100 in every box.
All subscribers receive the same core items, and the Premium subscribers receive a few additional items. The brochure is shared between versions. This is great because it allows you to check out what you would have gotten had you been on a different plan, but it does seem like it would invite a bit of FOMO for the Mini box subscribers.
Cost of Subscription
The Mini Bombay & Cedar subscription costs:
- $29.95 per month for monthly billing
- $29.45 per month for a 3-month subscription
- $28.95 per month for a 6-month subscription
- $28.45 per month for a 12-month subscription
As you can see, you save $1.50/month or $18/year by committing to a full year of boxes. That is a 5% discount, which is on the low end for subscription box discounts. But every penny counts, so be sure to sign up for a 12-month Bombay & Cedar subscription if you can afford it!
The Premium Bombay & Cedar subscription costs:
- $49.95 per month for monthly billing
- $48.95 per month for a 3-month subscription
- $47.95 per month for a 6-month subscription
- $46.95 per month for a 12-month subscription
For the Premium subscription, you save $3/month or $36/year by committing to a full year of boxes. That is a 6% discount, which is better than the prepay discount for the Mini, but still on the low end for subscription box discounts.
All subscriptions renew automatically for the same term as your original subscription. For example, a 3-month subscription will roll over into another 3-month subscription.
For the Mini box, international shipping costs $12.95 per box for Canada and $17.95 per box for all other countries, including Japan.
For the Premium box international shipping costs $16.95 per box for Canada and $23.95 per box for all other countries, including Japan.
These shipping fees are pretty average, not especially cheap but not so high that it’s not even worth subscribing, like I have seen with some other boxes that claim to welcome worldwide subscribers.
The total cost of an annual Mini subscription (billed annually) shipped to Tokyo is $556.80, or $46.40 per box. The total cost of an annual Premium subscription (billed annually) shipped to Tokyo is $850.80, or $70.90 per box. In each case, these prices are still less than the promised retail values of $60+ and $100+, and the boxes are quite heavy, so it seems fair to me.
U.S. shipping costs $5.95 per box for the Mini and $6.95 for the Premium subscriptions.

Damaged Items & Refund Policy
Bombay & Cedar does not maintain a clear damage resolution policy. Fortunately, I haven’t yet had to deal with any damaged items. But let us know in the comments if you have an experience to share!
Bombay & Cedar international packages are shipped out of the United States via RRD. You will receive an email with a tracking number when your box ships.
Average time from shipment to delivery: 10 days (as of April 2019). Click to learn more about average delivery times on Expat Box Life.
International shipping rating: 3/5. Somewhat pricey shipping to Japan. Tracking provided. Decent delivery speed. No clear damage resolution process.
Bombay & Cedar ships in a cute branded box that directly holds the items.
The box is also branded on the inside, with a welcome message on the underside of the lid.
As usual, the items are wrapped in tissue paper, and they are cushioned with the standard crinkle paper.
Packaging Rating: 5/5. Low-waste design. Cute branding. Box is well-designed, on both the outside and the inside.
After subscribing to Bombay & Cedar, you will receive a standard welcome email.
Bombay & Cedar uses the Cratejoy platform with a branded UI for subscription management. So the website is both user-friendly and transparent about your subscription details. For example, you can log into your customer dashboard at any time to review your billing information, address, and renewal date. You can even change your shipping address or payment information without contacting customer service.
Bombay & Cedar offers a fun giveaway for subscribers who post their boxes on Instagram, but unfortunately, the deadline is often too early for international subscribers to participate. For example, my January 2019 box arrived on February 14, but the deadline for posting was February 12.
Bombay & Cedar also lets Premium subscribers choose between two options for one of the box spoilers each month.
Customer Experience Rating: 4/5. User-friendly. Can edit current subscription online. Great UI. Could be more mindful of shipping times for international subscribers.
Bombay & Cedar does not ask about allergies during the subscription sign-up process, nor does the website contain information on requesting allergy accommodations. So we don’t know if they will accommodate allergies.
If you have reported an allergy to Bombay & Cedar, give a shout in the comments below about whether and how they accommodated you!
Allergy Friendliness Rating: 2/5. No clear process for requesting accommodations. No information about whether change requests will be granted.
